In a vibrant celebration of Indonesian culture and the spirit of Sumpah Pemuda, Metta School recently organized a lively event titled Harmoni Bahasa Indonesia. Held in honor of Bulan Bahasa, the event was a colorful display of national pride, creativity, and talent, featuring traditional attire, cultural performances, and exciting competitions.

A Cultural Extravaganza on Event Day

On Friday, November 1, 2024, Ciputra World Mall, Surabaya buzzed with excitement as Metta School students, adorned in traditional Indonesian costumes, took center stage. The event day’s schedule included two main highlights:

Singing Performances by Finalists

Talented students from Grades 4 to 6 showcased their vocal abilities as they performed songs that celebrated Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage. These finalists had been selected through a competitive audition process leading up to the event.

Class Performances of Traditional Songs and Dances

Under the guidance of their homeroom teachers, students prepared class presentations that brought to life the melodies and movements of Indonesia’s traditional arts. Each class showcased a unique performance that highlighted the diverse traditions from across the archipelago.

Activities Leading Up to the Event

In the weeks preceding Harmoni Bahasa Indonesia, students actively engaged in various preparatory activities, including:

Classroom Performance Rehearsals

Mentored by their homeroom teachers, students collaborated to create engaging traditional song and dance routines. These sessions encouraged teamwork and provided an opportunity to delve deeper into Indonesia’s cultural richness.

Coloring Competition for Grades 1 to 3

Younger students expressed their creativity through a coloring competition that featured pre-printed pages showcasing Indonesia’s beauty. Adhering to a strict rule of using only colored pencils, participants skillfully brought their artwork to life, celebrating the country’s natural and cultural diversity.

Singing Audition for Grades 4 to 6

Older students competed in a solo singing competition, where they displayed both their vocal talent and their confidence. The finalists, chosen through an initial selection process, later performed live on stage during the main event.

A Showcase of Tradition and Talent

The sight of students dressed in traditional Indonesian costumes—combined with their enthusiastic participation in singing, dancing, and artistic activities—created a memorable celebration. Harmoni Bahasa Indonesia not only commemorated Sumpah Pemuda but also deepened the students’ appreciation for their heritage, fostering a sense of unity and pride in being Indonesian. Metta School extends heartfelt thanks to the teachers, parents, and students who contributed to making this event a success. The celebration was a testament to the enduring spirit of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity), reminding everyone of the beauty and strength found in Indonesia’s cultural tapestry. Bravo, Metta School!
